Disney+ to Launch ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ on August 23rd
The Star Wars: Ahsoka series, which fans have been eagerly anticipating, will premiere on Disney+ on August 23rd. The show is set in the same timeline as The Mandalorian, but features a character who has been around since the prequels. Ahsoka Tano, a former Jedi Knight, made her debut in the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series and has since appeared in Star Wars: Rebels. She was finally brought to life in live action in season two of The Mandalorian and the first season of The Book of Boba Fett.
Ahsoka is played by Rosario Dawson, and it looks like that the show is a pseudo-sequel to Rebels, with many of the characters from that show appearing live for the first time. Natasha Liu Bordizzo plays Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays Hera Syndulla and Eman Esfandi plays Ezra Bridger. Infamous franchise villain Grand Admiral Thrawn also makes his live-action debut, played by Lars Mikkelsen.
Other cast members include David Tennant, Diana Lee Inosanto and the late Ray Stevenson, who died last month. There are also many rumors that Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. For the uninitiated, Ahsoka Tano was Skywalker’s apprentice before she started executing Jedi Padawans and blowing up entire planets.
Disney+ has released a new trailer for the series, which will air tonight during NBA Finals Game 3. Most of this footage was already available in the previous trailer, but there are a few new shots here and there. The entire show is written by franchise stalwart Dave Filoni, who originally created the character for Clone Wars.
